a few milestones happened in my life this summer
my eldest graduated from college

my dad retired

and i had my 30th high school reunion

i think that was quite enough in the momentous occasions life file
apparently someone else didn’t think so
because this arrived in my mailbox last week

do they not know that i am only 47
my youngest is 13
my hair color is still my own
are things so bad at aarp that they need to rob the cradle
I have to say that the worst part of getting the AARP card was having The Husband bring it to me, with a wicked smile on his face, saying “Look what I got in the mail.” I saw what it was and started to laugh (because his old decrepit self is going to be 50 in March) until he pushed the envelope closer to my “cant see anything up close after age 40 eyes” and it was then that I zoomed in and saw that my name was on the envelope. I gasped and felt my heart go giggly wiggly which made The Husband laugh really really hard. Then he left, still laughing at my expense.
Poor man. Doesn’t he remember who, in his old(er) age, will be cleaning him and feeding him creamed corn?
I wonder if he will forget by then that he hates creamed corn?

Hey Tammy – look what S. brought back from our “favorite” store on Rue Cler.

If you make me that blackberry pie I will bring you one this weekend.
However, you might have to remind me.

Dear Self,
You are allergic to nuts. NEVER EVER EVER eat them again. They make your lips bumpy and your insides burn and they will suck away a day of your life while sleeping off a dose of Benadryl. They are evil. What were you thinking???? Sure that healthy recipe looked pretty good with mangos, black beans and quinoa – you should have done yourself a favor and had that leftover burger instead.
Now repeat after me “You are allergic to nuts” “You are allergic to nuts” ”You are allergic to nuts”

Sleep well and throw those things in the trash.

I am a west coast girl. I grew up around trees (big trees), farms, covered bridges, rivers, livestock and mountains. These things feel like home to me. Colorado has been our little home away from home for the past 14 summers and even though it isn’t technically “home” for me, it has many familiar similarities. Here are some images that take me back – with the exception of the aspen trees – replace them with fir trees or giant oaks.

These feel like home to me. What feels like home to you?

It was a beautiful and blissfully cool day today. The girls decided that today would be perfect for an en plein air art day – so we headed to a river up the road.
Jessica chose this spot

Hannah chose this spot

It was three hours of outdoor bliss – they painted and I read

Then they took time to goof off

Afterwards we went for an early dinner and they got into a huge fight

I ignored them and thought of the river

And my three hours of bliss
